I’ve been going to a fair few gigs recently that are for up-and-coming bands and I thought I’d let you know about a couple of them.
First up is a group from Wrexham called Gallops. They play some pretty heavy instrumental stuff. Kind of like Errors but crunching on gravel and other manly things. They are also very nice people! At times the music is quite math-rock and at times it gets much more melodic, but it’s adding up to a good sound. Check out their Myspace here, buy their EP here.

Next up is an Indie-Rap collective from South West London. According to the story that he told us while on stage, the front man Clement Marfo was rapping on his own until he came across the Frontline, a 5 piece indie band. Putting the two together resulted in Clement Marfo & The Frontline. It’s a good fusion, where good guitars and clever choruses meld well with Clement’s rapping style. Check them out here, buy the single here.
I’ll finish with a band that I saw just last week. They’re an Aussie duo who are currently based in London called Gypsy & The Cat. Apparently they are Sony’s big push for 2011, so expect to hear them all over the radio in a couple of months. It’s easy to understand why, too. They remind me a little of the Big Pink, only less flimsy. I like how there isn’t a lot of empty space in the songs. It is kept full and airy the whole way through. Their live set was also very good. Go and give them a listen here, and then go and see them! If you like it you can get the album here.
And as a bonus for you, here’s a very good remix.
