Here are three songs that have been doing the rounds recently, all of which are worth a combined twelve and a half minutes of your time. The first comes from Clock Opera, who we’ve previously spoken of quite highly. This is their new song, due out on Moshi Moshi at the start of October. It’s in slight contrast to the piano-based ‘Belongings’ we posted before, but the emotion is well and truly there while the buildup is every bit as good. They are slowly working up quite a buzz at our HQ (which is to say, over at my gaff) and I’ve got high hopes for them over the rest of the year.
Clock Opera – Lesson No. 7
Song number two comes courtesy of Trophy Wife. It actually came out at the end of last year, so the “recently” above isn’t technically correct. But who’s checking?? The song deserves to be played plenty, what with it’s melancholy beat, lo-fi sound and distinctly DIY feel. This song comes off the single of the same name that was released on Moshi Moshi in November of last year. They also released The Quiet Earth, another AA single back in February. You can get hold of both of them from here.
Trophy Wife – Microlite [Buy]
Our final song is a quiet cracker from Casiokids. It is strangely uplifting and I can fairly guarantee it will make you smile while listening to it. The riff is so simple and yet utterly effective, while the muted vocals appear to slip in almost unnoticed, as if they were another synth. It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything from them, so I’m very much looking forward to their new album, which is also due out at the start of October on Moshi Moshi. Spotted the link between these three songs yet!?
Alright then, that’s enough for today. We’ll be back later in the week with some remixes and whatnot. Tarra for now!
