12 Days Of Christmas – 31st December

Optimash Prime sporting the Winter Collection

The day is here. Strap on your dancing shoes, get your gladrags out, etc. etc. Tonight is a biggie wherever you are. The Warehouse Project have got a massive night on, London is buzzing and in New York there are too many things to choose from. But I’m sure that 90 percent of the clubs and bars tonight won’t be playing this song. It’s not that it’s crap or unheard of, just that they probably won’t get round to it. If you do feel like requesting a song though, give this a try and see how it goes down.

It’s also fitting for tonight as NYE is the night where everyone’s meant to have someone to go home with. Or at least that’s what somebody told me. So if you do, then enjoy Mr Charles singing his heart out. If you don’t, then fret not, because it’s a load of bollocks anyway. He’s got a woman this way…

12 Days Of Christmas – 30th December

Optimash Prime sporting the Winter Collection

It’s New Year’s Eve eve. Time to start lining your stomachs for tomorrow’s shenanigans and getting in the mood to meet one hell of an anti-climax. Sorry, I mean have the night of your life…

Swiftly moving on, here’s a song from Lykke Li. She’s been releasing stuff ahead of her new album that’s meant to drop some time early next year. This though is a golden oldie of hers. Half cover / half remix, it’s rather good. The music continues here…

12 Days Of Christmas – 29th December

Optimash Prime sporting the Winter Collection

Today’s song is a bit of a contrast to yesterday’s. It’s a Feist remix. No, not that Boys Noize one, but one that the Postal Service have had a crack at. It doesn’t lose any of the charm of the original but it gets a good dollop of electronic noise added like the brandy butter next to your Christmas Pudding (let’s face it, there’s still loads left). The song is here…

12 Days Of Christmas – 28th December

Optimash Prime sporting the Winter Collection

Another day, another song. Something a little more chilled out today I think. This is one of the most instantly recognisable songs for a certain generation of French people (think 60+). For me it was lovely to hear a song that my grandad used to sing to me played by one of the greatest guitarists ever. Listen to it here…

12 Days Of Christmas – 27th December

It’s already day three! Fancy that. By now I’m sure you’re all really fed up of having the whole world around your house, not giving you any space to play with your stocking fillers. So have a song that you can put on really loud, sing and also give people a bit of a hint as to your state of mind. Music down here…

Next up is a classic from Jimi. Amazing guitar, amazing lyrics and a vocal that is typically Hendrix – half sung and half spoken.

I hope the turkey isn’t too dry and that the presents are still fun. The song is this way…

Merry Christmas!!

It’s the holiday season so here’s a little something to enjoy. I’m not a big fan of all things Christmassy, so these songs won’t be ostentatiously festive. Instead they are a bunch songs I always enjoy listening to. One a day for the next twelve days…. Lovely!

Make sure to click on the ‘Read More’ links to hear the songs and if you like them then feel free to download / buy them.

Mr. Little Jeans / Friendly Fires

Oops, I’m a couple of days late. Well, I’ll blame it on being at home and having all the standard christmas household chores distracting me. Anyway, a couple of absolutely great ones for you this week. First up is a delightful remix by RAC. The original is by Mr. Little Jeans, a Norwegian singer/songwriter based in London. The song has got a throbbing, melodic bassline that carries on through almost the entire song and a really good vocal. It’s difficult to find out much about her other than the fact that she’s Scandinavian, writes great pop songs and is being tipped to get some serious exposure over the next 12 months. So sit back and enjoy this one.

Mr. Little Jeans – Rescue Song (RAC Remix)
Get the song here. Buy her songs here or here.

Your second treat this week is another remix, this time by Air France. Funnily enough they are also from the very northern bit of Europe, hailing from Sweden. They’ve been described as ‘post-rave bliss’ by FACT Magazine (who put out some amazing mixtapes) and this couldn’t be more accurate. Imagine listening to this song quietly after a long night out and you’ll get exactly what they mean. It’s a little up-tempo but it is most definitely chilled out enough to make it on to this playlist. I’ve got to credit Sheffield’s own Lionel Vinyl for telling me about this one… It’s one of his favourites, and that makes it worth a ride!

Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy (Air France Remix)
Get the song here. Buy Friendly Fires here.

Sorry that they’re both remixes this week… I’ll have a little think and try to put up a couple of originals for my next post. Have a great Christmas and see you in the new year.

#26 – Kim Jong Il

This has nothing to do with music. Well, a music person put me on to this, but that’s a bit of a tenuous link.

Look at this tumblr and lol heartily. Apparently Kim Jong Il likes looking at things…

Kim Jong Il Likes Looking At Things

Update:

While on the internets today I have come across another absurd Tumblr. This time it’s following the actions of the ex-Russian President and current Prime Minister Mista Putin.

Who Is Mista Putin?

#25 – Big news

Okay, so two of my current favourite artists have released news about their new albums this week. The first is Cut Copy. Yup, that’s right. The very same band about whom I put a little post just a couple of weeks ago (find it here.)Yesterday they released info on the artwork and the tracklisting of their new record called ‘Zonoscope’, which is due to be released on February 7th. The cover looks amazing and while the song names don’t give very much away, it’s safe to assume from the two songs they’ve released that it’s going to be just as good as their sophomore record ‘In Ghost Colours’. Here’s the listing and artwork…
