With a name this awesome it is only right that Boom Bip (real name Bryan Hollon… Not as cool sadly) makes great music. It’s epic electronic stuff with a healthy amount of genre crossover. This comes thanks to his ability to get cracking collaborators on his songs, all of whom add their own take to the music. He has got a new album coming out at the end of the month, which is his first since last years Stainless Style with Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys (which is very good. But you probably already know that). Click for more stuff you probably already know…

Music For Horses no. 23
Another Music For Horses, another Four Tet song. Granted, he’s only featured four times, but I’ve had him on the shortlist plenty more. And there is a very, very good reason for that: he makes a superb song to chill out to. The rolling percussing that Kieron Hebdon likes so much, as well as the bleeps and glitches that serve to flutter around like little butterflies combine with the samples and stems from the original song to create something that is both chilled and engaging. Which is no small task. This old remix of his of Thom Yorke is a perfect example of what they both do so well.

#60 – Burial & Four Tet… And Thom Yorke
Well isn’t this a stellar lineup! They’ve only gone and released a limited edition 12″, with the song ‘Ego’ as the A-side and ‘Mirrors’ on the reverse. It is pretty much exactly what you’re expecting from three such names; swirling, ominous sampling and beats from the first two with Thom Yorke lending his haunting vocals to create something that feels shrouded in a mist on the B-side. ‘Ego’ is more uptempo and it’s got some cracking xylophone lurking about in the background.
Anyway, enough chat. We’ve got the Rinse.FM radio rip that’s going around of ‘Ego’ up top and a stream of ‘Mirrors’ just underneath. Listen to ‘Mirrors’ here…

A Tribe Called Quest // Sia
Here we go… Another Music For Horses post from me. I was thinking of what to put on and it struck me that I’ve missed an absolutely classic song that should have been in there from the start. A Tribe Called Quest have written some of the best rap I’ve ever listened to. It’s got a sense of humour and a point, not to mention the fact that it’s incredibly jazzy. It’s Hip Hop the way it should be. And this is not only one of their most popular songs, but one of their highlights. It’s not my favourite (I couldn’t choose just one of their songs!) but it is one that I like to put on, dim the lights and put my feet up to.

This next song is a classic remix of a classic chillout song. The original was used on emotional moments in TV shows the world over and this remix has had a few spins too. The person who is responsible for playing it to me is one Lionel Vinyl, Click here to finish reading…

Born Ruffians / DeVotchka
Howdy all, sorry it’s been a little quiet this week. I’ve been rather busy visiting Bordeaux again… No riots this time though! Back to business though, as I’ve got another two songs for you. I know they’re a day or two late, but they are worth it. First up is a song that’s about two years old but I heard it the other day for the first time in ages and thought it would fit in just right. It’s a Four Tet remix, which makes it long and full of space. It’s good.

#8 – Four Tet & the xx
Just a super quick one for you here. Kieron Hebdon (Four Tet) has given the XX a remix, and it is great! It’s all DFA and there’s a sample/synth at the start that sounds very familiar that I can’t quite put my finger on. Basically it’s awesome, give it a listen
