#160 – Ben Browning – ‘I Can’t Stay’

Not an awful lot to say here. I will content myself with wiggling my hips vigourously.

12 Days Of Christmas – New Year’s Eve

It is that time of the year again. You’ll spend way too much money on getting in to a club/bar/pub/whatever only to be ripped off for drinks and listen to music you don’t like with a bunch of douchebags bumping in to you. Yup, New Year’s Eve. If you’re thinking I don’t like it, you’d actually be wrong. I’ve had some cracking NYE’s and tonight should be as good as any. But before I go out, I’ll be listening to today’s song. It’s from Australian dance duo Bag Raiders and they released this all the way back in 2009. The hook sounds like it was played on one of those mini Casio keyboards (I mean the really mini ones!) and it’s infectiously good. Cue crappy dancing and spilling drinks everywhere… Continue reading

#91 – Gotye

Wally de Backer is Gotye.

Since being back I’ve had one of his songs from his (not yet out) new album on almost constant repeat, in part because of it’s superb production and in part because of the vocals of Kimbra, who features on the track. It’s a little bit of a break-up song, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. Both his and her singing are spot on and the song grows and grows into something rather delightful. It’s got a pretty good video too.

#48 – Architecture In Helsinki

This is another short one about a song I stumbled across and I’ve been listening to far too much! It’s a new Architecture In Helsinki song and it’s sooooo good. Yup, good enough to warrant me writing like a bloody emo. It’s got elements of the bits I love about AIH and a nice camp, dancy bit that’s a little reminiscent of Cut Copy. Who, incidentally, are compatriots of the band that this post is about. Anyway, I found this song and some other good ones here.

Now listen to it

Music For Horses no. 7

Quantic / Cut Copy

First up is a song by Quantic, but that’s not why I’ve chosen it. For me it is all about the girl singing on this song, Alice Russell. She’s got an amazingly old sounding voice that sounds like it could be on a track from Motown in its heyday. It’s soft and sultry with a bit of smokeyness to it. As it is, the song itself is pretty damned good too. I’m also a big fan of the banjo in it.

#17 – Cut Copy

Who’s for some Cut Copy? The super cool/slightly gay Aussie electro-rockers have got a new album out very soon and they’ve put up a couple of songs on the internet to whet our appetites. The first single was so-so, not quite what they do best. For me Cut Copy boss it when they’re indulging me with a wall of synths and semi-falsetto vocals. Anyway, this first song was called Where I’m Going and, as much as it pains me to say this, it was rather Kasabian. I’ll let you find it somewhere else. Instead of posting that song I’ll put up they’re newest single and an old favourite.
